I belong to a social network for current and aspiring film creatives. One of the discussions I read was regarding how long it should take a screenwriter to complete a script. One so-called professional stated that a screenwriter needs to be able to complete a screenplay in 30 days. He backed up his claim with anecdotal evidence that whenever he’s been assigned a script (assuming by a producer or studio) that he’s been given 30 days to turn it around.
I felt a little self-conscious about how long I’ve been taking on this project, but then I realized that I’m not a professional and that, while I value the work I’m doing here, activities that pay the bills have to take precedence. Nevertheless, I’m proud of the work I’ve done so far on this screenplay.
I bring this up only because I had expected to write more this week considering that I now have a rough idea of how the rest of the movie is going to play out. Alas, I only managed to write 5-ish pages before a headache sapped my will to continue on Thursday. And yet, I’m not that heartbroken, either. After the marathon session last week, I think I’ll be content with a quickie this week.
Now, Let’s Write This Movie!
