After the last episode, I’m feeling very confident about this script. Not only do these pages feel good, but the direction of the story feels solid as well. I also feel like the project itself is starting to get a little more traction.
The only minor concern I have is with some of the action description. Some of the characters I reference don’t have any names, because they are plot devices meant to move the movie along. They don’t have any lines, so why name them? The problem is that they come in and out of the film infrequently, but at important moments, and I’m not sure if script readers are going to remember these characters when they need to. As such, I end up giving these characters awkward descriptions, e.g. second old man, dead soldier from Epitaph, etc., and I’m not sure that that method helps. I doubt Brian will be confused, but he’s also privy to the entire story. I’m worried about the person who reads this fresh.
Imagine if you were a script reader for a screenplay competition and you had 100 scripts in front of you to get through in a month. You’d probably look for any excuse to toss a script into the “pass” pile. I have to keep that in mind as I write.
Anyway, despite that one niggling concern, I think these pages are going to fly by during the discussion. Now, Let’s Write This Movie!
